NERITES at the XLIV Colloquium Spectroscopicum Internationale (CSI) in Ulm, Germany

From July 27–31, 2025, the NERITES Horizon Europe Project was showcased at the XLIV Colloquium Spectroscopicum Internationale (CSI), held in Ulm, Germany, on the banks of the Danube River. The conference brought together leading experts, researchers, and practitioners from around the world to share their latest findings, innovations, and interdisciplinary applications in the field of spectroscopy.

NERITES participated with a dedicated booth, presented together with the project coordinator Marcel Reick from Laser Zentrum Hannover (LZH) and our partners from Ulm University (UUlm), Leonora Podvorica and Soumya Rajpal. The booth provided an excellent platform to introduce the project, engage with attendees, and explore potential collaborations. The interactions were highly positive, generating interest that will be valuable for our ongoing and future activities.

In addition to the booth, our team delivered a poster presentation, offering another opportunity to showcase our work, exchange knowledge, and discuss potential joint initiatives.

During the event, our partners presented two of the project’s key technological innovations:

  • A Mid Infrared (Mid IR) Sensor for high-sensitivity, non-destructive detection of hydrocarbons in aquatic environments.
  • A Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy (LIBS) System, enabling real-time, in situ elemental analysis to assess the condition of submerged monuments and artifacts.

These advancements represent a significant step toward sustainable, autonomous, and cost-effective monitoring of Underwater Cultural Heritage.

The CSI conference proved to be an invaluable opportunity to exchange ideas, foster interdisciplinary connections, and reinforce NERITES’ commitment to developing innovative tools that protect the past while shaping the future. The exposure and positive interactions during the event will be highly beneficial for our ongoing and future efforts.
