In December 2025, NERITES participated in the 13th International Conference on Advanced Vibrational Spectroscopy (ICAVS-13), held jointly with the 5th International Conference on Enhanced Spectroscopies (ICES5) at Xiamen University, Siming Campus, Xiamen, China. The event brought together leading scientists and experts from around the world to present and discuss recent advances in Raman, infrared (IR), and surface-enhanced spectroscopies (SERS).
NERITES was represented by our partner Leonora Podvorica from the University of Ulm, who delivered a scientific presentation highlighting recent project results on the long-term stability of polymer coatings for mid-infrared (Mid-IR) underwater sensing. The presentation demonstrated how ATR-IR spectroscopy, AFM, FIB cross-sectioning, and molecular-dynamics simulations enable a realistic assessment of polymer behavior under marine conditions, highlighting the decisive role of swelling and structural reorganization in analyte enrichment and long-term sensor performance.
ICAVS-13 and ICES5 provided a valuable platform for scientific exchange, reflection on recent progress, and discussion of future research directions. The strong interdisciplinary environment and high scientific quality of the programme reinforced a solid foundation for the project’s work planned for 2026 and beyond.
